Nexus Ops
How did I get it? There was a time...

One last visit with John Clowdus (or is it two more visits?), a game I've never been able to get rid of, and appropriately enough for my life a game about moving. There's also the best conflict game of all time, one that has never caused me to ask "Why Do I Own This?"

My wife has a similar relationship with Pack and Stack. Played it at a con and immediately wanted her own version, so it's on the never trade list.

I've played a lot of Ogre and I'd put the win ratio at about 60/40 in favour of the Ogre. That's mostly due to the fact that playing the Ogre rarely *requires* much subtlety or strategy -- if you want, you can just head for the command post blasting whatever gets in the way. The defenders, on the other hand, have to play far more carefully and intelligently. From deciding on your mix of units, to where you deploy them, to how you use them -- it's definitely a challenge.

Two generic bits of advice:

1) Attack en masse. If you slowly feed units to the Ogre, it'll happily eat them up. By attacking all at once, some of your units will be safe as there are too many other things for it to shoot at!

2) Try to get non-infantry units behind the Ogre. This presents the Ogre with a dilemma -- slow down to kill those units or head towards the CP. Giving your opponent a tough decision is almost always a good idea.

Thanks for that insight Greg. As I pointed out I do not have extensive experience with the game, maybe a half-dozen sessions. Having someone with more knowledge of the design chime in gives a lot more context.
